DailyChatter Recommends: Killing the Killers

Occasionally we’ll be making recommendations to our readers of books we like and respect on important global issues and on history. Our very first choice is the recently released “Killing the Killers” by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard, the 11th book in their incredibly successful “Killing” series with more than 18 million copies in print.

O’Reilly and Dugard’s new book looks at global terrorism since Sept. 11, 2001. It’s fast-moving and deeply reported. It also covers a period I know all too well, the war in Syria and the battle against the Islamic State, including the kidnapping and brutal execution of James Foley, a correspondent for GlobalPost, the international news organization I led before DailyChatter.

The book captures in compelling and dramatic detail the tragedy surrounding Foley’s murder and that of the other American and British captives, and the unconscionable failure of the US government to do more to free them. For 21 months I led the effort to secure Foley’s freedom in partnership with the Foley family, and O’Reilly and Dugard’s treatment of these events is powerful, sensitive, and extremely well told.

The book includes many other dramatic and important moments in America’s long-running war against Islamic extremists, including SEAL Team 6’s’ killing of Osama bin Laden. Sadly, the war against terrorism is all too present on the global scene today from the Middle East to Africa, as readers of DailyChatter know all too well.

We are pleased to recommend “Killing the Killers”. You can find more information and purchase the book here.
